Had a letter form HMRC saying iv not done last years self assessment I pay an account to do my books who has submitted my accounts, but HMRC still they say no and have fined me £100 .

If your accountant has submitted it electronically he will have a receipt, if he hasn't done it get him to pay the fine, knock it off his bill.

We used to send three lots of accounts in. All in same envelope. Each year they would loose one and fine us. Each lost account would take about two years to get the fine removed. Right pain in the ass.

I got exactly the same, but I do my own, appeal process online took 30 seconds and they found in my favour

The bill should have gone to your accountant too

I've had the same letter about a year ago. It got sorted out after a phone call

Funnily enough, got a letter from HMRC this morning, telling me that the corporation tax for year engine April 2016 hadn't been paid and could I please cough up.
I use an accountant to ease the stress of dealing with government tossuers and they dealt with it all before December.
They are a bunch of 'computer says no' dicks.

They chased me up for years for 3 pence, it was impossible to pay I even wrote cheques for it, got nasty letters for years about it. Guessing it took 12 years?

I retract my former statement, yes the removed the charge, but I suddenly now owe £78 in unpaid tax

I had the opposite experience - they owed me 16 pence.

They sent one letter confirming the refund and to say I would be receiving it shortly + another to let me know it had been transferred to my bank account.

Cost of postage & their time was far more than the refund.......

they owed me 30 pence and sent letter asking if I wanted it now or just give me it the following year and gave a stamp addressed envelope for my reply

Just ended a 4 month argument about cis returns.... no,one can cope with the idea of me filing early, had over 2k in fines land on the mat just before Xmas for stuff not returned from may...... yet I had paperwork, was on my cis page on their server and had email submission receipts. .... complete bloody shower
