the epoxy is a choice he could make if unable to safley use iso 2k but stills wants the 2k drying times and durabilityI like Max Meyer HS topfiller.
Great stuff but it is 2K.
It can be thinned from a spray putty to a wet on wet primer surfaces.
No doubt someone will be along to say epoxy is the only choice and everything else is pants, but 2k primer is a lot easier to sand and has it's uses.
It depends what state the OE paint is in tbh. If its just got lacquer peels and a few rust spots I would feather out the rust repairs by a good margin, get rid of as much of the lacquer as possible (a blow gun on an airline stripped the lacquer off the top 50% of my estate car lol) and use a 1k primer such as electrox (rattle can) followed by high bild, both a re bilt hamber products. High bild can go onto bare metal and is a modified alkyd zinc phosphate high build primer however it is probably porous to some degree. Electrox isn't porous to any significant degree and has ridiculous amounts of zinc in it so is a good initial primer for spot repairs. If there is rust everywhere and serious issues with the OE paint integrity then rip it back with DA 80 grit and go straight on with epoxy primer like lechler 29107 or HB989, flat that back with 400 (till the peel is gone) then 600 then 800 then go over that with HMG Nisocoat 2. If there's any rust pitting use deox gel to remove it all.2k preferably. Never used it before so know nothing about them. Have a large estate roof to do.
Its one of those things that people get away with but you don't want to take the chance with. I left some of my project in 1k high build for about a week in a dry shed before top coat but had it up to 50 degrees for an hour on the day I topcoated. I'll eat my hat if there are any subsequent issues with it lol. Epoxy is great in for this reason. Just zero worries about leaving it a while or even wet sanding.can the job be kept dry from start to finish..you dont want 2k sitting out in the dew /damp overnight vs epoxy you can drive it around in primer if need be
