Been having a look round the forum, and it's good to see lots of enthusiastic people here!
I weld as part of my job; mostly aluminium fabrications.
Experience with MIG, TIG and Gas.
We have a lovely Cebora Sinergetic Inverter Mig for ali- push/pull, that i use to weld 2 and 3mm sections. Also works nicely on solid lumps too.
The Tig set is a Sincrowave (or something), must be near a meter cubed, water cooled, foot pedal, AC/DC. I find preheating works best for fillets, but external corners are fine with non.
Been getting to grips with gas welding (ali) recently, and once i'd read some info on the net about technique, i did'nt find it too difficult (this time). Got some really organic looking welds on the latest job (as well as some crappy sunken bits
)
I find the weld action is more like soldering than anything else.. makes for a smooth, small fillet!
Well, i'm no expert in any of the processes, but can achive good enough results for what we need.. Been doing it about 5 years now.
I do find welding one of the most rewarding parts of working in the tool-room.
Thats me then, and my interest in welding
