just saying hello been looking for a down to earth welding site like this one so if its ok with everyone i'll stick around for while .im based in the north east (uk)ive been welding since 1982 on mechanical and structual engineering projects and maybe one day i'll get it right!!

Welcome to the forum. Glad we come across as down to earth here.

Do join in. You'll never get it "right" - it's doesn't seem possible with welding when there are so many different ways of doing the same job well. Suspect you've got it "more than good enough" though,

I'm glad people here haven't fallen into the trap of not joining in because they don't know what is "right". There's a lot of "I tried that and it worked well enough for what I was trying to do by doing this" which is probably the advantage of a DIY forum.
