My name is hugh, I'm 23 from Dorset...

I've got a computer science degree and work in marine electronics as an engineer. I also have a lot of welding experience under my belt having been repairing things on the farm for years. Been stick welding since I was 13, mig since I was about 17 and spent 9 months working in a cnc sheet metal factory doing TIG on aluminium and carbon/stainless... I currently do heavy DC tig in a refurbishment shop in my spare time.

So any queries you've got about mig/tig/arc, I'm happy to help out.

I might start to make some posts soon about tig theory if anyone is interested?

Welcome to the forum. Anything you have on TIG would be fantastic!

I'm going to pick my first TIG up on Saturday (a mighty Miller Syncrowave 300 from eBay). I've been MIG welding for years but never tried TIG. I'll read the manual and book, set it up and see if it works, then attack some bits of steel to see how easy it is to ruin a tip . Sure to be posting questions as I go along, but would be interested to know what differences in technique are involved in going from MIG to TIG.

And don't worry to much about touchdowns, you'll be doing plenty of those when your learning! If you have any questions, PM me, I might even be able to record some tig welding video/technique as I now have my camera phone recording video...

Thanks for the link. The Miller (and Lincoln) websites are brilliant. I use them as examples for clients who would like to get to number 1 for this that and the other in search engines but can't be bothered to put the effort in.

There is a lot of really well written and useful stuff on both, but I'd not spotted the free TIG course. Looks useful - I'll have a read through that.

just thought i would be you know that despite a few high frequency problems the miller syncrowave 300 is one of the best machine out there .there are thousands left in the market place and they are an older generation machine and one of the best . i personally have worked on the electronics in them for around 16 years . they are a solid sturdy well built machine
