Hi guys and help needed

Im an ex-mechanic who has played with cars n bikes for over 25 years, yet Ive never learnt to weld, Ive allways had somene able to do it for me,or is that just an excuse for been lazy?Unfortunatly Ive been suffering from depression for the last 10 years :, but Im well on the mend now :As a form of therapy I bought a barely started and cocked up trike project,this time I dont have someone to help me or much money! so its time to do it myself ! any help on choosing a welder would be much appreciated cheers

Welcome to the forum,

Are you making the frame or just other bits and pieces? I've been using a Clarke 155 for the last 16 years and it's been great for automotive work and messing around. Any make of welder that puts out 150 amps should be good for between 0.8mm and 4mm steel.

the frame is all there unfortunatly the frame does not fit the engine or the engine doesnt fit the frame , hence described it as a cocked up project !! fortunatly abit of thought solved the problem but the rear engine mounts had to be cut off and now they need welding back on then almost every other peice that has been welded on needs removing and rewelded in the right place,it has turned out to be more work than I first thought but I guess this what you get when taking on someone elses project. MIG should be brilliant for all the brackets. It's worth practicing until you get neat welds, although brackets don't tend to be safety critical (if the engine falls off it would spoil a trip, but would be unlikely to kill you).

I would say min of 150amp for any job reely,
As for make I dont think it matters to mutch.
