Just noticed that it's my ten year anniversary of joining the forum!
I looked for my first post but couldn't figure out how to get the search utility to do what I wanted, so this is from memory...
On 4th Nov 2012 I....
..) didn't have a welder
..) was about to start a 10 week night course on welding
..) thought welders were full of magic
Since joining this forum I have
..) owned, bought and sold six welders
..) started a youtube channel
..) learned to braze aluminium
..) realised that I *needed* a lathe and bought what I thought was a massive lathe
..) realised that my lathe was tiny, sold it, and bought what I now think is a massive lathe
..) realised that my lathe is still too small but don't have space for a bigger one
..) realised that I *needed* a mill and bought what I thought was a massive mill
..) realised that my mill was tiny and that I would need to raise my garage to fit a bigger one
..) realised that getting a taller garage was not condusive to a stable marriage
..) been recognised by the neighbours as the expert on all things metal, welding and fabrication (even though I'm only at 4% skill-level)
..) learned that three-phase electricity isn't as scary as it sounds
..) spent most of my disposable income on tools
..) made a dinosaur and a reindeer
..) made a bunch of new friends and met all sorts of weird and interesting people
..) bared my sould (in public and on PMs) and been astonished at the level of empathy, sympathy and support from people I've never met
..) tried to pass on what little I know about practical topics and also some more personal and stressful topics
..) never regretted being here
So thanks to one and all, old members and brand new. I've joined a bunch of forums over the years but I reckon this is the only one I'm still on, ten years and 8,714 posts later!
Cheers
