hi, not sure if this is in the right section but have been perusing the forum and guides for a long time now and thought id sign up and say hi, i'm josh i'm a self employed mechanic, have had an old SIP MIG welder lying around for years now (was a hand-me-down from me muther) and have done a bit of welding in the past but never had the time to sit and really practice.
i'm starting a fabrication and welding course in sept but thought i may as well get as much practice in on the MIG before hand so i can focus my energy on TIG when i get to college.
i'm currently sorting out a couple things on the SIP which should be done next week so ill start laying some beads and get some pics on here and see what you think

ah brilliant cheers, i've always heard their older MIGS were s&*T but its been ok apparently (other than the horrendous build quality) no wire feed issues etc...

Not a million miles away. I have passed Lyme often in the past but never actually stopped off for a visit. Lets hope my first visit doesn't involve helping someone out fixing a SIP welder

On a serious note: many of us are always willing to try and help out other forum members, especially if they are relatively close.

na not too far, i went to college in weymouth for a while, good to know there's like minded folk about do you weld for a living or is it just a hobby ?

I'm a self-employed/freelance fabricator. Work mainly with mig and tig, mild steel and stainless.
Have a play and some practice as you are, if you do find yourself struggling with anything though, give us a shout and perhaps we can sort something out.

Now thats pretty cool, I used to be a motorcycle mechanic myself
Done my apprenticeship for 3 years when I lived in Luton 20 years ago, was in the trade for about 8 years. Then moved to Weymouth and changed my career direction which brought me to where I am now.
I have probably been out of the trade now for so long, that I havn't been able to keep up with all this electronic technology stuff; So the trade exchange could still work out

well i cant keep up with the techno side of mechanics either to be honest, its lost all its practicality.
i'm an old school mechanic haha (im 22 but i'm sure i'm made for another generation )
iv'e had my workshop for a year and a half or so and really want branch out and hone my fabrication skills
