Just joined the forum today, bought an mg midget 1500 to work on over this summer and winter.
1976 so need some welding, just bought a Dirty tools 140 and am just beginning to use it, looking forward to the project.
I'm retired 70 and will probably get stuck with this mig I'm using it without gas.

Hello, welcome, good luck with your MG - and with your MIG.

The Dirty Pro 140 MIG offers a lot of features in a very small and very cheap package. It is synergic, controlled by a single dial calibrated from 0.5mm to an optimistic 5mm of material thickness. The programmed wirespeed/voltage ratio can also be fine-tuned or "trimmed" with a -1/0/+1 voltage control. In addition, it has full manual control, with dials for wirespeed and volts, and MMA ( Arc ) mode too.

This type of job can be done with gasless fluxcore wire, but as others have said it is easier with solid wire and gas. Either way, start with simple straight beads an inch or two long on 2mm or 3mm steel, then progress to the thinner stuff.
