Hi guys, please let me know if I can attach a foot control to my HF Hobart Advantage, it has a 5 pin connector to remote, but is this a true remote control.
Thanks.
A lot of welders have more pins but usually only switch and potentiometer wires are needed so 5 is plenty for a remote. You would need a pedal and a plug to fit your welder socket, put up a picture of the socket and you might get some ideas like where to buy the plug. My Stel uses a 5 pin twist lock Tuchel plug like this.
Is there any other identification other than Hobart HF Advantage (TG-201 or TG301)? It's a pretty safe bet that it's a proper remote socket that'll work with a pedal BUT beyond that it could simple, it could be complicated... my initial suggestion would be to contact SSC controls however a quick look at their site suggests this may be one of those machines that is very 'picky' regarding pedals i.e. require a higher power rheostat rather than a simple potentiometer
http://www.ssccontrols.com/TIGchart.htm scroll down to the bottom. That's the only reference i see for a Hobart with a 5 pin socket. There's a chance it might be compatible with the 5 pin Miller model as both are brands names from the same parent company but it depends how old you machine is as they haven't always been
Hang on, google is suggesting that this isn't a welding machine but an HF start 'add on' box. Iluis, can you post some decent pics of the entire thing with the entire front panel and whatever views are necessary to show other connections
