Bought a couple of flap discs today. Mmmn. They are good. They remove metal in a much more sympathetic way, but still quickly - and they leave a fantastic finish. Would still use a disc I think to trim up an edge on a plate for example, but for dressing they are the biz.

What brand and type are you using? I use ATI Garryson Zirconium ones, they seem to last pretty well even if you abuse them.

The trick to prolonging the life of them, is not to use the edge, keep the pad as close to the angle of the flaps as possible.

We use Wurth flapwheels on our air linishers at work and they last quite well considering the abuse they are given - they also work well on my angle grinder at home

Yep i love them too, used them for years Great bits of kit especially for stuff that needs welds taken off and a finish for powder coating, Take the weld off nice gently finishing strokes and off the the powder coaters. The jobs a good un.

Abracs are good. THey smell a bit when you are working them hard, but last a decent length of time.

Err, uhm, dunno, I'll get back to you on that. I'm used to Flex-o-vit and Tyrolit etc. I think these are a no brand jobbie. But so far impressed with the concept. Thanks for the tips. I'll set to with them tomorrow on something.

I also use 60 grit fibre disks on a flexible backing pad for finishing welds or cleaning metal, much cheaper and longer lasting than abrasive disks and kinder to the metal with less deep gouges.

I'm currently using 3M ones which are good though I think the ones I got from a local supplier previously were better, though dearer. They were SIA ones on a plastic back and lasted ages.
