i just got my self a Hobart handler 125 mig for $411 so 205.50 i think of you guy's money. i got 1.5 rolls of wire and a pair of welding gloves.(good deal i think so.) best of all it was from a welding shop.

hey weldequip i think i found your brother the guy in the shop was very nice great service and i got some stuff with the welder.

i will post some pix of the welder later right now i going to play with it now.

yes it seams that way now. i'am a computer tech and one of the nicer ones all the other ones in the city are :full and i would perfur to have a 5 yr kid work on my comp.

well at any rate i'am having tons of fun with this welder but i like to fine a way to test the welds. so i can see if i'am making them tough for what i like to do.

easiest way is to perform a destructive test, weld 2 pieces together, put the sample in a vice then try to break them apart by bashing them with a hammer. general rule of thumb is if the weld breaks it's no good but if the parent metal breaks then it's ok. Crude but efffective.

how about if it breaks apart before you get in the vice. Vice and hammer destructive test is a reasonable way of telling cheaply if welds are any good. Sometime with welding jobs a sample is required by the client to have destructive testing performed on a weld, normally using high tech equipment

^well i do give them a good smack with the smallest hammer i have.(it a 5-10 pound sledgehammer.)

good idea "put it in the vice" now why didn't i think of that?

^funny how that works out.

shame this model dose not have gas stuff but i could upgrade to the gas/gasless 140amp weldmark (which is just a Hobart mig) for 600 (it 300 in u.k money). or i could look around and see if there a good welder for sale.

so gas would save me from cleaning up the slag and nicer welds i'am sold.

You can run that machine on gas aswell... it has the polarity reversal leads above the wire feed; just swap em over & put the gas on

You will see there is no gas line.

I think there is a kit available with a gas line to the torch, a regulator and possibly a solenoid.

Ask the guy in the shop about the kit.
