Hexagonal Steel tubing is there such a thing?

I have a current on going rolling R&D project that needs hexagonal steel tubing to make one of the components. The tubing must have an internal bore of 12mm across the flats to insert a 12mm hex bar into it.

It must be a hexagon as the other item is part of another manufacture's system which I wish to piggy-back on to on of my potential new products.

Failing that a 12mm hexagon punched in 12mm thick plate would accommodate my issue, again is this possible?.

How long does each piece need to be, shortish pieces could be forged.

Older Honda "Electric shift" gearchange quads still have the shaft for a gearchange pedal sticking out, so if the electric part gives up the ghost, we convert them back to a pedal. However Honda put a hexagon on the shaft so that you can change with a spanner "in and emergency," instead of the spline used on normal pedals. So I get a hexagonal hole water jet cut in piece of 12mm plate and weld it onto an old gear pedal. It doesn't come out "bang on" so a bit of filing is needed. We used to use 12mm sockets welded to the pedals, but making it stay on the shaft was difficult.

I had a bunch of 35mm discs with a 19mm hex in the centre laser cut from 12mm plate, so it's certainly possible

If it can be alloy there’s possibly a extrusion available.
Or if it’s not too long wire edm. I’ve done that to produce prototype ‘extrusion’ samples

Tooling for iron workers are not that expensive

The water jet or if you require super accurate as @pressbrake1 said electrical discharge machined

What is the OD of the part

For that sort of size could you just crimp down the ends on round tube?

I had a thread a while back looking for hexagon tube, tried looking pretty hard myself plus emailed all the suppliers mentioned in my thread but i have still not found a UK supplier

Hex box section always used to be available, ICI when I worked for them bought it in quite long lengths,

I'm sure it was them I bought some tricky shaped tube for veteran motorcycle front forks.....

I have drawn a blank with the actual hexagonal tube material, but one company has offered to make me a punch and die set to fit a Kingsland (which I have access to) for £75.00 +P&P + VAT.

The have confirmed that the set will punch 12mm thick M/S plate and 12mm X 30 bar which I can then drill and tap in the side for a M8 locking screw.
