Wiring diagram does show ECU pin 26 as receiving 12v as brakes are applied, and 31 switched to ground when brakes are applied.

Ok here goes, it's pre canbus so no problem there
The key doesn't have a chip in it, no pickup coil round the ignition barrel,
There is a buzzing which is the fuel metering doing its thing, I will have to pull the top off again and watch what it does upon cranking,
It's doing more than It did before,

No brake light switch, but should still start and idle even if the brake/clutch switch is on or off,
We will get there in the end, although using an arduino to control the engine is looking favourable

well this thread can now be concluded, ive finally spent all day on it and it now runs, stripped the pump down only to find it can be assembeld 180 degrees out, stripped it even though it looked ok, checked all the timing marks, put it all together, and it fired up, bit rough for a couple of seconds and then idled quite happily, so cheers for the help and pointers....

Something wrong with the throttle pedal now, really revs itself up when I just touch the throttle pedal, so probably a dicky wire, but at least for now I know it runs
