Right I'm in a spot . got some aluminium window system need to weld it together is it anodized ? and if it is can I "V" it out and weld anyways ? the weld in the picture is not mine it's a tack from manufacturers
Anodising is a pain when it comes to welding as it causes all sorts of mess if the two come into contact. Yes you can V it out but I wouldn't recommend you do it with an abrasive. This can cause more contamination issues. I would simply remove the anodising with a mechanical method like a carbide bur where I intend to weld only. Judge how wide your welding bead is going to be roughly and remove that amount plus a bit for human error. In your test piece you've clearly welded on parts of the anodising and it's contaminated the weld. Only you or your customer can say if that's acceptable or not.
thanks Richard I dont think the customer is worried about the look as it is all hidden , but it do make a mess ! its not a structural joint its just to keep the channels level until fixed down , there is a lot to do in a hurry as usual , just wanted to get it looking a bit better than that !
