Hi all,
I'd like to have a go at making a lamp with a heavy gearbox cog as a base and a motorbike chain as the neck of the lamp which will be welded to the cog. I'd rather just mig it but I could use stick if someone pointed me in the right direction with regards to which rods to use. I do have access to mapp gas if I have to preheat it but I'm not sure I could get it hot enough and I'm not sure on how long I'd have to post heat it.
I've seen lamps at craft fairs made with these materials and the welding was a bit rough so I know it can be done but I'd be worried that the welded area would be brittle and the chain would just snap away from the cog if it was picked up from the chain section or if it was jarred.
I'm open to suggestions on how to go down this route.
Many thanks in advance guys.
