Help with machine please???

Hi Guys

Just bought this ietm from a company going into administration. It was listed as a manuals sheet folder? Can anyone tell me how it works and what its supposed to do. Better still the name of such a thing. We have been racking our brains in the shop but cant figure it out

Looks like a folder for bending sheet metal.
Looks like it does rounded folds rather than square edges though.
Hand operated rather than powered so I would guess it might take thicknesses up to 1.6nm?

I can find a space for it in my workshop if you don't want it!

It is (almost) exactly what it was described as, a manual sheet folder. Manual, as opposed to power operated, folder of steel and aluminium sheets. Fairly thin stuff, you clamp the sheet in it with the bit to be folded sticking up, then fit the tube onto that short piece of bar and swing the triangular bit over on it's hinges, this catches on the sheet and bends it. They usually are mounted in a vice, or are bolted onto a purpose built table.

mmm so on the right of the picture is a roller. Can you tell me were you might clamp your piece into it? Sorry Im not a numpty I am an engineer but this seems like it missing something?

Maybe it's been specificaly made to produce just one type of fold.

Could you swing the handle the other way, the roller seems to be quick remove is there a slot that the start of the metal slides into vertically ?
There appear to be 11 slots in the folding arm are they for adjustment of a clearance
What was the Co making you got it from ?

it looks like it was designed to put a small roll on the edge of a flat panel although not certain as I cannot see any depth stop for consistency or wear indications where metal has been pushed up against it

the blade to roller spacing looks to be adjustable and the 4 bolt down points make it look like some effort might be needed

either way it looks like something specialist to the industry the previous owners were in or else for a specific job that they were asked to do

I can see that there are a few adjustments on it, but not what it's meant to do....
The short handle looks like it advances the "triangular" plate and the bending edge it carries towards the roller, probably for different thicknesses of sheet, at the far ends of the triangle there are pivot blocks with adjusting bolts and locknuts, lock-down bolts into the blocks...



Can you find out who the old gaffer who used it was, buy him a pint?

with the handle horizontal, is there a space to put a sheet in across the top of the roller and under the blade and then, by lifting the handle, it could form a gutter shape on the edge of the sheet

or it could be a fancy doorstop

Maybe it was also meant to be supplied with a square edge former too to allow straight bends (instead of curved....you know what I mean!!!!!)....then the adjustment allows for different mandrels to be used....just guessing though

I think the former pinches against the sheet ,which is touching the round bar,allowing a round edge to be formed along the edge.
I’m showing the same principle on my NORFOLK bender,producing an eye on the end of a 30x10 flat bar.

I think you've only got part of the bender, this bolts onto a base through which sheet is fed, the lever is lowered to form a soft bend over the roller.

They didn’t make anything, because they couldn’t work out how the bender works
