Help with laptop...

I'm normally pretty good with PC's but I'm stumped! I recently bought a 2nd hand HP laptop to try and recode my BMW headlight (long story see mechanics corner) . Anyway I managed to do it without the laptop so thought I'd just sell it on. Only cost me £40 and it's in good nick but... it came with a clean copy of Windows 10 so I put my name on it and a passcode. Now I can't get my name and code off it!! I've tried all the ways it tells me but keeps coming back unable to remove. I contacted the guy I bought it from and he says contact Microsoft support .. surely I must be missing something? Anyone able to help as I have no use for a laptop but can't sell it with my name on!! Thanks Gerry

1. Reset the PC: This will remove all personal data and settings.
   
   • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
   • Select Get started under Reset this PC.
   • Choose Remove everything to ensure all personal data is deleted.

Thanks guys ..I've tried to reset it a number of times but it comes back saying it 'encountered a problem' and can't reset. I'd wipe it clean but not sure if I can find a copy of Windows and it would have to be on a stick as no cd drive

Create a new account, login with new account, delete old account

Put your name as Admin and let the new owner change it.

If you’re not worried about keeping any files on it, the easiest way is to do a full factory reset. Go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC, then choose Remove everything. That’ll wipe your account and reinstall Windows fresh. If it still asks for your info after that, you can boot from a Windows 10 USB installer and do a clean install. That’ll clear everything tied to your name.

If you don't have anything sensitive you need removed I'm after a cheap laptop just for a car cable and I'm not bothered if it's got someone else's name on it, would you post?
