Help with fuel hose

Not sure if this is the right section for this post but here goes. I'm looking for fuel hose, as the ones fitted to the car back in 1996 have gone rock hard, and as part of my rebuild I'm replacing all the pipe work on the car. So called into my Audi Dealer and they want £20+VAT per meter and I have to buy a 5 meter length, if I don't I get it in 1 meter lengths and one section is almost 2meters long so I'm looking at £120 bill for 5 meters of pipe. Now that does appear to m to be a bit on the high side, I don't what to buy junk but on the other hand I'm not looking for silver plated stuff either.

So the markings on the pipe are RPK >NBR/CR< 7,5x3 - 38/15. I've search on google but come up with a blank, can anyone help with this?

Have you considered a chandlery? There's 7.9mm fuel hose for £5.50 a metre.

Just buy some Fuel rated hose, Will be the same quality as main dealer stuff, If not better & you won't be walking funny

5mts is a long run, I would go hard lines and terminate with short hoses.

I don't need 5 meters, it's Audi that sell it in either a 5 meter length or 1 meter length and I need 1.7 meter length, so if I was buy from Audi I would have no choice but to buy the 5M length and cut it down. Let's face it Audi don't make fuel hose, they just buy it in and add between 50-100% mark-up.

Will try a few of them places, was also told Pirtek sell fuel hose, they are not far from me so will try them as well.

Yep, I've been stung by these sub standard hoses quite recently. Been on a car for about 4 years which is only used a couple of times a year. Fired it up as I do occasionally and noticed it wasn't running quite right and could smell fuel quite strong. I wrongly assumed it was the closed empty jerry can behind the passengers seat but eventually discovered a large puddle under the car about 10 mins later. Turns out it was the hose supplying fuel to the fuel rail and it was spraying petrol all over the engine bay. It's a miracle the car didn't go up!!!

not as easy as that ...china will stamp anything on it , it might say goodyear but its a piece of crap

well if u have bought it from a hydraulic hose supplier and repairer there hardly likely to sell u fake . otherwise you will be strait back and kick off

Yes, more than a few discussions on the web about reputable suppliers selling Chinese knock offs, someone in the supply chain pulling a fast one to earn a few extra quid.

We even had it offshore, with certified American made shackles and lifting chain, made from cheese. They look the part, but are cheap Chinese copies.

theres been tales of major sellers being sold fake stuff unknowingly , happens with spark plugs , 02 sensors etc too , more fake stuff about than genuine

its happening in the aircraft industry selling fake parts at quarter of the price the bad bit there is planes with a few hundred passengers are getting killed when parts fail

No quite. We got bore patches for our rifles from a reputable dealer. They were meant to be proshot but they weren’t, they were fakes. Once on the jag they wouldn’t enter the barrel. You have no guarantees that main dealers aren’t at it

You need the right hose - R9 marking on it if it only carries fuel, R10 if it immersed in it. I've had reputable suppiers claim they had R10 and then sent me R9.

Modern fuel rots older hose - I had a Scimitar SS1 with intact, non-cracked hose which had stood in a lock up for a decade. Stuck some new fuel in it and it ran lovely - no leaks, no smell. Used it in a trial, running for a good few hours - absolutely fine.

Leave it stood for a year or two and it wouldn't fire. Squirt fuel down the carb and it would. Dragged it out and started to dismantle it - both supply and return hose the tank had rotted and broken immediately by the tank connection - which explained the petrol smelling dark patch in the gravel underneath it.
