help with fitting ladders to attic

I got a set of attic ladders off fleabay.when the guy explained it to me it all seemed simple, but now amonth later i have forgot what he said and cant seem to suss out what goes where.

Pic 1 is the ladders at the top where the black plastic clamps are supposed to somehow fit. Pic 2 is the plastic clamps. the one on the left, the bit with the white paint running down it is supposed to be the part that you screw to the loft floorboards, at the entrance to the attic. The other end is somehow affixed to the ladders themselves. This is the part i am having problems with. i think the plastic piece with the two screws in at the top of the ladder is supposed to somehow mate with the clamp, but it does not seem to fit. Can anyone help ?

If it's like the one I've seen, the bit with paint on attaches to the loft floor/hatch junction and the other end goes into guides in the side of the section of ladder that leans against the hatch opening when you offer it up to the hole. Not sure that helps but I had a go...

yes well as i said its "the other end goes into the guides" bit i am unsure of. It just doesn't seem to fit whatever way i try it. But then again after two hours of gasping and flailing about in a red hot attic i possibly may not have noticed if it had been pointed out with a neon sign.

Unscrew the gutter bolts and remove that flat plastic bit, thats a stop designed to support the top section of the ladders when you climb them.
Slide the insert piece over the ladder profile (you can see where theyve already been sliding because theyve scuffed the ally a tiny bit), screw other half of hinge to loft opening corner and repeat for the other side.
Drop the ladders onto the floor in position, and replace the plastic piece with the gutter bolts, and arrange it so that the stop is hard up against the hinge, therefore transfering the weight of the top section into the hinge assembly when stood on.

I think the bit held on with the 2 pan heads is an end stop. The glider section on the end of the support you are holding slots inside the aluminium ladder side profile.
