Help with Electricity feed for my MIG

HI all. MIG noob here.

Just bought a budget MIG for DIY projects (Sealey MightyMig 150) The people I bought it off say it can't run on full power on a 13A ring. Is that true? What power setting can I go up to on a standard house ring?- I havent tried it yet anyway as my garage only has a 13A spur which I will prob melt or keep tripping the fuse on.

Thinking of running some 6mm armoured on a dedicated run from my consumer unit into the garage - about 10m run of cable.

Does this sound like a sensible approach? Any advice & tips from what you guys have done would be much appreciated.

There are many more experienced leccy's than me here and I am sure a dedicated supply is the best answer, I do however run my MIG off the 13amp plug up to 200amps and have had no problems, although most of my welding are short runs of 30mm in length maximum, perhaps if I was doing a lot of welding it would probably trip out.

I have a Sealey Supermig 180 and can go upto number 4 (out of 6) power setting on my garage ring circuit. At number 5 the 16A breaker trips in my garage.

Shavy, if you use as short an extension lead as you need (if you need one at all), in 2.5mm2 cable, I'll put money on that you'll only occasionally pop the fuse on full power. I used to run a 175A Clarke set that could do everything on 13A, unless running at full power for prolonged periods - that would cook the fuse.

Also make sure the spur is in decent sized cable. 6mm should be more than adequate, but I'd advise you do nothing until you've tried the welder to see what happens.
