Help with dimensions on novoferm roller door

Hi guys, I want to buy a Novoferm insulated roller door for my workshop. B&Q have got some at a reasonable price but on each door they sell they list a width and a heigh. Now is this the full width including the side runners or the width of the curtain or the width of the opening?

This should not be getting this complicated, I phoned Novoferm and explained and was given the phone number of one of their installers, I spoke to him and he said they normally fit the door to the inside face so there is tolerance and adjustment with regards to the width and where you mount the runners.

I can't do that, due to the way the doorway to my workshop is built, the door has to go between the brickwork, I told him the exact width of my opening and asked which width door do I need. He couldn't answer.

I spoke again to head office and they gave me the number of their senior engineer, I spoke to him and explained the sittuation, once again he banged on about fitting the door on the inside face which I can't do because effectively the door is going between the two side walls, the workshop is a L shape with the door on the front of the foot of the L two parallel walls with a pillar on the end of each created by creating a square column two bricks thick.
Anyway I explained the door has to go between the bricks and the gap is 2285mm which door do I need? he couldn't answer, he doesn't know if the width stated includes the runners or not?

Un be piggin leave a bull, please buy our thousand pound door but we can't tell you the dimensions and there are no fitting instructions on our sites

So by chance have any of you got a single sized noveferm roller door fitted that you could measure the total width including the runners for me please?

That doesn't actually help 500e, if you look at the roller door section it has a big red paragraph explaining exactly what I am saying.

I thought they came in standard widths. To fit within an opening you either have to trim them or build up the side runners with timber. The trouble is you lose some width of the opening.

Off the shelf normal doors do, but insulated rollers tend to be made to order so cut to size.

Been a few years since I have fitted them, but the size is normally the opening. With rollers you need to add on the box size on top, I think it was 350mm off the top of my head. Somwhat depends on the design.

The tracks were 70mm I think but around, but again it's been a while and that was SWS doors. Though they all use the same slats and tracks tbh.

Inbetween fitting of those roller doors can be problematic in as such as making the tracks solid enough and secure. I would fit a wooden frame inside the opening out of 3x3, that will give you a solid fixing and allow you to adjust the tracks to be spread evenly. It's worth lift the wooden post's 10mm off the ground with a plastic packer to stop the damp rotting the base of them.

Having a frame also allow you to trim down and cover the top box, this make it much more secure as the locking parts are in the box.

You drill the tracks about 15mm in from the outer edge and fix into the frame with 12g screws, 5 up each track is perfect. These doors really don't like the ground to be out of level as the rubber seal along the bottom is quite thin, about 10mm max so it's worth grinding the floor first if needed.

Hi mate, that's exactly the case with this particular door, the opening is 2285mm and the width stated on one of the doors is 2286, so if it does include the runners it will be great, if needed I can skim a mill or two off the bricks but it would fit great, but the question as I stated is does that width include the runners? they don't seem to know

Hi mate, this is a new door and it comes in several fixed sizes, they show on some websites that it fits a range of widths and they achieve that by fitting it on the brick face inside the garage and if required allowing the curtain to overlap the opening.
the box is 300 by 300 but has a 45 deg bevel on the front lower face, now that's another thing
Does the stated height include the box or is it the height of the runners?

The manufacturers website states this door can be fitted in three ways, within the opening, on the rear face or indeed outside on the front face. The box is already enclosed.

The runners are a box section and a U section, with the box section on the outside edge, you can drill through the box section to mount on the wall face or through the U section and through the back of the box section to mount internally.

The top box has a lug either side that drops in the box section part of the side runners at the top, so that sets the width and you just spirit level them by moving th bottoms and you're good.

The bottom seal is like a full width tube made of rubber, It's a quality bit of kit and is around £900 with two remotes

Yes if it turns out the 2286mm door has to have the additional width of the runners added I won't be able to use it, in which case I will order the next size down and line the opening with wood, but I need to know with certainty before I order.

I have fitted many inbetween, but they are always flimsy that way. Unless fitted to frame inside the opening.

It's always worth ordering your door 100-150mm too tall, then cut the tracks down. That also gives you one or 2 slats extra you can remove and store incase of a damaged one.

It's a very simple job to cut the width down too, drill out the rivits on one side then peel off the felt strip. Then cut down with a jigsaw or metal circular one, then refit the strip. I had to do that a few times on site when the wrong size had been ordered.

Novoferm tend to be overpriced , hence why they are less popular with the main installers.. Personally I'd try SWS as it will be made to the size you want, still the same products used. Also has a Somfy motor.

Thanks Ben. I found this, the height is clear but could you explain these widths to me, does this show if it includes the runners?
What does "Overguide width"mean and how can the dimensions be "Up to" either it fits or it doesn't ???

Might be the pricing, as in up 2500mm is x amount ect. To be honest I don't know how novoferm size their doors, as you say you called them and they could not answer.

I think I may of only fitted one or two Novoferm door's and they were sectional ones.

Much easier to deal with SWS, give them the size of the opening and spec inbetween fitting and it will just slide in. Or if the sized door is on offer, then chop it down yourself if Novoferm don't do custom sizes.

Ok, well thanks for your help Ben, Yes it is an offer at B & Q but I will have a serious look at the other make certainly if Novoferm can't be arsed to give me the information so I can buy one of theirs. At the moment there is supposed to be someone phoning me today about it, we will see, but I'm not going to hold my breath!
