I posted a wee while ago about a Bergen rivet gun I was trying to source replacement nose pieces for and have finally had chance to have a play around with it but I can't get it to work and (presuming user error!) am looking for a bit of help. I've uploaded a couple of vids which hopefully show what is happening better than I've described:
This is it in operation with the nose piece fully secured -
I've watched some videos on YouTube and disassembled, greased and oiled and tried various positions of the internal ram and that is the best I've got out of it. This is how it was adjusted for the above vid:
I'm not sure if it's clear but it worked best with the ram turned most of the way back. I notice that when I screw it in, the jaws open so they don't provide any clamping force on the rivet. If I leave the nose piece out a little bit, it kind of works:
But not very well and from what I've seen, it's not meant to go back that far. That's with the smallest nose piece and I can't even get it to work like that with the next size up. They're also soft rivets and the ones I need to use are steel.
This is a picture of the nose piece that came with it and it's clearly long enough that it opens the jaws even more (that's a 1/4 sized nose piece and I don't have any rivets of that size to test it, it's also second hand so may not be the correct nose piece either although I have assumed it is)
It's running from a 3HP 100ltr compressor at 90psi. Has anyone got any advice or suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?
