Help servo error fault messer profile cutting machine

Hi Guys

I have an old messer cnc profile cutting table that I use on occasions. When to cut a part today and machine stopped mid cut and a servo error tolerance fault is displayed. I tried to manually jog to and it gives the same fault on both x and y axis. This lead me to believe it not a problem with the motors as its unlikely both would fail simultaneously. Any ideas what could cause something like this give me an idea where to start hopefully something simple

Yes everything everything still seems to be working.

I know it sounds weird but check the limit switches are ok.

I will check those is there a simple way to test them with a multimeter

Limits are usually normally closed so you should get continuity.

Also worth reseating boards and connections just in case something is loose.

Definitely check any multi plugs too.

Good clean of the tracks, check encoders aren't slipping etc.

Is it a machine that you can unlock and move the gantry by hand? Any drive locks that get disengaged or engaged? Check the drives are engaging properly...

Where would I find the encoders (sorry not electronics orientated) Yes you can open a spring loaded bolt and swing the servo motor away and push along tye rails by hand it's moving ok with no obstructions.

Encoders are normally on the end of the motors.

Ok so bit of an update think I've found the cause when I push it manually along the x axis I am getting a reading on screen but no read out when I move it along the y axis so guessing this is causing the issue? 1st photo is what i believe reads y axis position maybe im wrong 2nd photo is the y axis servo motor

That's what My intuition was telling me any ideas how to test if there working?

Can you reset the zero position and run the Y motor in a manual jog/straight line mode with it unlocked, see how/if it runs.

If the encoder is on the back of the motor, I'd expect it not to read a change in y coordinates if it disengaged. Did it before this issue?

I'd say the first pic is deffo just proxy sensors, probably a little tab they get close too at each end of the bed.

I'd probably double check the wiring is sound (give it a good wiggle!) and probably pull the encoder off and check it's not come lose and is clean.

I remove to top of the servo motor and visually checked encoder all looks good and it is giving a readout when I turn the sprocket on the end of the motor so that seems to be working ok
