Help, please

I aquired 2 gas cylinders, propane ones, from the recycling centre the other day. One is fine - empty with a proper valve on top. The other one has this thing on top and also has some gas sloshing around inside...

My questions is, how do I get the remaining propane out of the cylinder??
It looks like a "push-on" fitting, sort of quick release type thing.....

That looks like a standard push fitting for the gas cylinder. If the thing was empty you can just push a nail on the top and force the seal open. As its full I would suggest you either find someone with a heater or other device to burn off the gas.

I wouldnt suggest you push the seal down with gas in there.

That valve is for clip-on regs. Protect your hand against being frozen with plenty of rags & gloves and press the centre down with a long screwdriver &c., the gas will let itself out.

If you're wanting to use the bottle as an air receiver get back and I'll tell you how to connect a pipe to the valve.

Cheers gang! The bottles not full. I can hear a bit sloshing about when I shake the thing, sounds like a cup full or so.....
Its going to finsh its days as a stove/heater for my rather cold shed

I may be wrong, but it looks like a gas cylinder off a fork lift or some other IC powered plant. You will need to get the proper connector, do you know anyone with a gas powered FLT you could do a deal with? Are you sure it has gas in? this type of cylinder has a floating gas pick up, they are used laying down, it could be that you can hear. Just play safe.

Definately!!! I have no intentions of a visit to Torbay General! To be honest I'm a bit of a wuss these days, I always err on the side of caution! Dont want the nippers picking up Dad's bad habits

I think it's a bog standard cabinet heater bottle. Regulators are available from camping stores, hardware shops, caravan places and so on. There are two slightly different sizes, though, Calor and the rest, from what I can make out.
