I'm just starting out. I've dabbled in MIG some years ago (10+!) but haven't touched any welder since. I'd like to get into TIG for restoration and small hobby projects.
On an impulse purchase, I bought a rockworth TIG machine a few weeks ago. I've not even taken it out of the box yet. I now understand this may not have been my best choice from general opinion so I've been looking around for another machine.
I'm looking to do alloy and stainless, mostly thin stuff like exhausts (1.6mm) etc. Possibly up to 3mm alloy I'd guess.
So - I now know I need ac/dc also for the alloy stuff, so it looks like the rockworth item has to go.
I've found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-DC-TIG...ltDomain_3&hash=item27bf345de6#ht_2351wt_1163
And was hoping someone could assist with the pro's and con's. Any welder I buy will need to be run from domestic single phase power as I don't have 3 phase available in my workshop.
If you think something like this is rubbish, please do say so. I don't have a great deal of money to cover this off because it's just for hobby work really - perhaps £400 maximum. I appreciate this puts me squarely in cheapinese land, but needs must.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
