Help on what's what on my welder....

Hi guys first post.... I have had a kemppi kempotig acdc 250 for about a year I have just been self teaching and welding stainless steel but I would like to maybe try pulse and also try alloy..... I have been having a fiddle with it but I can't seem to work out what does what!? Can anyone shed any light for me?

is that lower weld not pulsed then?! looks ace to me. I failed miserably with the TIG set i tried.

Flick the switch below the current control dial down to the bottom setting, then play with that to adjust the pulse. Although from the front panel graphics, I can't figure out which aspect of the pulse it actually adjusts (base amps, pulse amps, pulse width, pulse freq etc)...

Hugh that switch has 3 positions top one is the one I have been welding ss with, Middle I thought was pulse and bottom I wasn't sure what it was??

When you flick the 3 position switch under the amperage dial do different LEDs not light up elsewhere on the panel to denote which parameter will be altered when you turn the dial? I've circled two of 'em in green...



Based on this thread emailing kemppi will likely result in them emailing you a copy of the manual... http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/kemppi-250-amp-ac-dc-tig-welder-single-phase.23351/ It might turn out that an an extra 'add on' box or circuit board is needed to get more control over pulse parameters- several other brands are/were like that for example Murex/ESAB heliarcs all have a panel on them for pulse but it was an optional extra so often the switches and dials are blanked off.

Hi guys thanks for pointing me to this thread.... Maybe someone can explain to me in more layman's terms (apologies I'm learning....) how can I put the machine to weld alloy? Also I have set mine to pulse position before but it doesn't seem to do anything!? I'm using a kemppi foot pedal... I seem to be doing fine with stainless just struggling with trying alloy...

I can't explain what the different aluminium* specific parameters do any better than in that thread, set the polarity to AC (bottom of pic, 2nd from right) and the dial to the left of that is AC balance. Pulse is less useful on ally, personally i find it a hinderance

* stainless like virtually all metals is an 'alloy' (steel for example is an alloy of iron and carbon), aluminium (ali, ally) is one of the few that's also commonly used as a pure metal [/pedantic]

Thanks hotrodder you are correct if I flick the switch the lights you have circled do activate but when I push the foot pedal there is nothing..... Maybe it's me and my lack of knowledge yet maybe I need to flick something else? I do understand tho, the part that I don't get is the polarity switch has 3 positions I am currently welding in the middle position (-ve) for steel/stainless. Is that correct? If so what is the +ve and other Shape for? Again apologies if my knowledge seems poor I am a caterer by trade so this is still a learning curve for me a hobby that interests me. Many thanks Adam

The switch i labelled #8 in the other thread looks to be currently set to 'pulse off' in the pic of your machine and there are another couple of possabilites that'll only be answered by playing with it/asking Kemppi for a manual. DC TIG is virtually always -ve (DCEN), DCEP can be ignored for TIG. The other shape is AC. Have a good trawl through the TIG forum and tutorial as pretty much everything has been covered before and you'll also find various links to other learning resources like the millerwelds TIG handbook etc
