Help on experience to move and get a visa for Australia Perth.

Hi all I'm new to the forum but just wondered if anyone has any info about what I need to obtain a visa to get into oz. I've been welding for over 12 years I'm a 29 year old self employed welder/engineer, I worked employed for 3 years building and welding handling equiment and went self employed for 9 years. I can mig mild, stainless and alu, I can use synergic pulsed and standard mig. I can use arc in stainless and mild and tig stainless. I mainly sub contract to a welding fabricators doing all the technical jobs, having to problem solve and design what ever the customers require, from a stainless steel shelf to conveyor systems to stainless pneumatic factory machinery but I've never been to college for engineering or welding, it's all self learnt. What would I need to do to prove what I can do to be accepted as a skilled welder?

Depends how long you have before you leave and how much money you want to spend.

If you have the cash, just go and get a few basic codings from a well respected place (make sure this place will be acknowleged in Australia and not some fly by night place. http://welderfab.co.uk/ is a good place to ask about this) Or if you have a year or so before you go, then just sign up to a few evening classes that do City & Guilds MIG/MMA/TIG level 2 & 3 (maybe just jump to level 3 if you are confident enough, best speak to someone who has taken it. I have only done level 1 & 2 myself)

Do NOT sign up for ANY welding qualification course that you see on the interweb. These are not worth the paper they are written on. They cost at least 5 grand and are 90% internet based. A total waste of time and money, for a completely made up qualification recognized by no one.

My brother and his wife emigrated to Aus about 11 years a go, They spent a few years there and came back. They are back there again now. They are what is termed Yo-Yo Poms.

Things were a little easier for them as she already had dual nationality, even then they had to prove they had been leaving together and bought furniture etc.

He got his nationality before coming back the first time.

I don't know your reasons for going, family, the weather,better opportunites etc seem to be the normal ones.

If your are skilled labour then you can get in and get paid well as long as it's a skill they are after.

Although the pay can be good be aware the cost of living can be very expensive so take that into account before being swayed by the high wages.

An example on something which we've all bought, where my brother is a beer is £10 in some places and that's not unusual.

Cars are more expensive than here and they do have some very different rules on motoring. One example they have double point for speeding offences on Bank Holidays where my brother lives.

I have no doubts my brother will be back at some point but they are enjoying things at the moment.

They speak the same language, drive on the same side of the road but the people/culture is very different there.
