help needed with 3 phase converter

I've had this 3 phase converter given me but not sure of the controls, anyone know ???
Whats the boost button for ???
Whats the idea behind the 3 position rotary switch ???

You could always ask the manufacturers, they're still making versions of these rotary converters.

So what setting would you start for a 3hp motor, say start on 1 and then switch to 2 or 3 or start on 3 and then go down ???
My mate saw it working but didn't think of asking how to start it

So to turn off do i just use the 240v switch ???

heres the newer one u just turn it on and boost is autamatic for starting then u just turn the voltage dial till it runs at 415 volt the motor sounds lumpy if it isnt matched it varies with whatever size motor u are using

Not sure it can run a 3hp motor. Output says 1.?? kW. A 3hp motor is 2.25kW. suppose if you don't load it too heavily and it keeps the amp draw down you should be O.K.

it could either be a 1.10kw or a 1.50 kw. either a one and a half hp or a two hp motor

You set the horsepower, it will have several capacitors and you get different capacitance with the different switch positions.
I think the boost will be holding the starting cap in, so if the motor doesn't start quickly, you hit the boost.

I had a Motorun static converter on my polisher for a while[15 years], it had an off/on switch, a horse power selection switch and a boost switch. The starting was completely automatic. I guess the instruction would have said, "if the load is heavy the boost should be held down". What really happened was it started automatically[a polisher is hardly a heavy load], but after it had been in use a while the nut on a the solenoid loosened and you didn't have any starting cap. So you had to toggle the boost on to start it, unless you were the one who wanted to grovel in the polishing dust and fix the converter.
I tried it on my compressor to see if it would run it, it was 4hp converter and
the compressor is 5hp, it started it OK but once the pressure was up above 50 psi, on every compression the starting solenoid was pulled in[so it got boost every rev;-)]
