Help needed, movano wont start..

Well I have probably posted in wrong place,sorry in advance.
Brother bought a movano to go to italy to collect his daughter who has been over there a year on language course, so doing the proper thing checking it over, clutch is suspect, so he has it apart ,new clutch/slave ect ect, all back together and engine refuses to fire , its as if the immobaliser is on,now engine was sweet as a nut previous to the clutch job.but spins over but not firing.
Checked all connectors plugged back in but nothing obvious, turn ignition on spin it over and engine fault lights up.
BEFORE he has a complete melt down anyone with any experiance of these beasties??
I suggested getting a code reader,or what ever the tech name is but unsure which ,cheap, one to get, its on a 03 plate.

has it got a crank sensor at the gearbox below the offside driveshaft like the renaults? has he unplugged it or broken it? or trapped the wires in the belhousing?

Sounds like a sensor fault. Code it to find out. But they Red Renault in disguise, which are French so it's scrap

+1 Crank sensor IMO if it was taken out, when box was taken out, make sure it has seated back in ok. IF not it could have been damaged taking the box out /back in.

Thanks guys, no rik r its far too good to scrap, he took sensor out (crank) and checked resistance against a new one, no physical damage either, but I am sure its sensor or wiring related to them, as engine was superb before he pulled box off.
I will take the day off tomorrow(self employed) and see if I can go through it with him.
Does anyone know if you can get a plug in reader for one of these?Thanks Arther

A big standard one should read the basic engine codes. It only gets complicated for the non standard manfully codes for abs air bag etc.

just coz they read the same doesnt mean it will work , if the end is damaged it is knacked

if gearbox has been off and it wont go, check cranck sensor followed by multiplugs

Ok, when old sensor was checked, and he did show me, it looked exactly like the new one, no rubbing or marks at all on sensor "tip", must admit I have horrible thoughts that he realigned flywheel wrongly, but as he was taking it apart I said centre dot it , as scratches can get mis read, and he did ,so flywheel should be in correct place.not looking forward to tommorow ! Any specific brand of code reader ? Arther

Danny P ,when refering to multi plugs I just want to be sure you mean the various connectors on loom/injection side of things. thanks Arther

03 plate will have a bunch of multi plugs in the passenger footwell, they are common for getting knocked so check them

Well.thanks kayos, just told him and he is going to check that, OBD reader ordered, he is stressing to put it mildly, got a spanner ready to check diesel at injector pipe whether he will let me do that is another story !spent an hour last night crawling over it after he had left but nothing obvious, although did find a rubbed nearly through earth return lead this morning, but as it wasnt completely gone dont think thats it.
so will check diesel at injector(hopefully) and await OBD to arrive..Thanks to all who have offered advice.Arther

Ok so cracked injector feed pipe, just a little diesel, not high pressure thats for sure, if I did it on my iveco it will spray out, this didnt.
will check to see if power at injectors next.

Took of the connector to crank sensor , cleaned with spray, worked first ckick of the key, Thankyou for all the advice guys appreciated, so the new sensor he got at £55 will be going back to the motor factors ! so I can now have a relaxing week end ,ye. Arther

Barracuda thankyou, but you mis read last post , its up and running, how ever its not starting instantly as it was before, spins over for say a second then fires up. thanks for help .At least my brother has gone back to his normal colour from the crimson red .....Arther

I would keep that crank senser in the glove box if he is driving to italy and back had a similar issue with a meriva .would take longer to start as time went on but once started would be ok until it then started failing when warm (crank senser) stalling while driving and no amount of cranking would get it going again till sensor cooled, something to do with resistance in the coil.if he does nt need sensor after trip can always take it back then.

I agree with tinker Jim, its not firing up instantly as it should, anyways he now has 3 or 4 weeks to semi convert to part camper, on the up side i drove it back to his, plenty of power , clutch now nice no judder or slip and brakes are sharp, also he has a OBD reader coming in the next few days...hopefully that will confirm any fault when codes have been cleared, me yes I would have a spare sensor in glove box, or indeed fit new and keep old one as well.
will let you know whats what after obd is checked ..and again thanks for all advice and help.Arther
