using my MIG welder today and all was okay. Stopped to have a cup of tea and left power onto machine. Noticed a small explosion (more of a pop noise) and flash coming out of the gap where the earth cable goes into the machine. Power light still on but the welder no longer works - no wire feed. Took casing off and no obvious problem - no scorch marks. I am new to welding so am not familiar wit the bits inside the box. Can anyone help me?

Take a look at the pcb. Could be that the small transformer mounted to it has fried. Also look over all the components on the board esp any capacitors as these can "pop". Try getting a good pic of the pcb (use closeup mode if your camera/phone has it.
All the above with the power OFF.
When not welding there are still some parts of the machine that have power feed to them hence the reason somthing could still blow even if you were not welding.

Looking at the scorch marks, unsolder the transformer ( square thing at bottom of pic) and test the windings, if you have a meter?
