I don't think putting a run on a piece of steel that big is going to give him zinc flu, even if it isn't cleaned off it will burn through quite easily with the heat from the arc. I do agree that it is operator related not the machine though. It looks like it's been squirted on from a distance with not enough power. Try holding the gun with two hands to steady it and just make a puddle to start with instead of trying to lay a run down. Turn it up to full power and wire speed as high as it goes then hold it about 10mm from the plate and pull the trigger. If it pushes back at you and stutters turn the feed speed down and repeat till it fizzes then experiment with the power knob.
