Help identifying indexable tools

Ive just bought a lathe and some tooling but im having a bit of trouble indentifying what tool is for what.

I have found some guides showing standard tool shapes but not indexable.

Could someone please help me figure out what tool is for what from the below pic?

indexable work the same as normal tooling so use the same or how i do it try and see!

From the left, the 2nd and 6th look like threading cutters. 2nd is inside threads, 6th outside.

First and last are unidirectional.

Most of the rest are for cutting on the left. Either cutting up to a shoulder or facing work.

Looks like an odd set. Don't see many with square cutters. Most are triangular as it give more room around the tip. Odd it does not also have right facing cutters.

Hard to say from the photos but the first four look like internal the last four external.
No 1 and 9 are normal turning tools internal and external respectively.
No 2 and 5 are threading tools
No 4 and 8 look like roughing tools
No 3 and 7 look like finishing tools

maybe just my eyes, several look like Trigons.
Just use whatever one is applicable to cut the way you want.

Yes, but they are not triangular, they have rounded sides. Makes the angle near the tip wider than 60 degrees.

I agree, use whatever works for you. I have square, triangular, right, left, center and some home made holders. I tend to use whatever I'm in the mood to use Some are better depending on the profile I need to cut.

we haver HSS steel blanks and grind what ever we need at work

90 percent of work can be done with hss tools . easy to sharpen cheap and dont chip on rough steel

for me indexable tools are far less hassle than HSS, they last much longer and it's no time at all to swap when they are blunt.

Use them dry or with flood coolant, if you use intermittent cooling (squezzy bottle, brush ...) the tips are prone to chip
