I couldn't find pop rivets on there (the link only took me to the main page but the search only turned up solid rivets which need hammering - I think) ...these are what I'm after (or even smaller/shorter if they exist) ...I just didn't want 1000 with the associated costs! I just need to fill some erroneous holes in a copper ball so can't get to the inside.
I just went and hunted in my shed because I thought I had some, but alas I was wrong they were just small aluminium ones.
Don't forget pop rivet leave a steel portion in the middle which often falls out and would be stuck inside the ball. Also they aren't liquid tight in any way if that's an issue?
Is that an old stylee copper ballcock float Ratty? You've got oxy acet havn't you? I dare you to weld up the holes with some braze (which I know can be done) or some scrap copper strip (which I don't know can be done).
If it just needs to be water tight like a float i'd be tempted to use the epoxy metal putty stuff - i've used it in loads of oil and fuel related hole-blocking excercises and have yet to have a leak.
Yes it's an old stylee copper ballcock float (well spotted Si) but no doesn't have to be watertight, purely cosmetic...part of a sculpture (and yes I could get out any bits that drop inside as I have cut a biggish hole to attach a stand to). They really are pretty tiny holes, I riveted a kind of collar to the ballcock to act as a stand then didn't like it so drilled it off, now I just have half a dozen 2.5mm holes around the circumference. I know rivets would be pretty visible but they'll look purposeful whereas the holes just look like a mistake (which is what they are!). I may just dribble a little solder across and copper sulphate to blend (disguise). Brazing..mmm..I don't want to get too much heat around as it has a rather vulnerable (and venerable) owlish sorta sculpture thingy attached to it made of wood..and whilst I have a few bits of brass rod, I've no brass flux..and...and...I'm a coward
Not got any copper 'pop' rivets, but i think i have some proper copper rivets in my toolbox. Might be countersunk ones.
Ill have a butchers tommorow if your interested.
Thanks for the offer hit'mad but I've got a feeling you are talking about proper rivets which need hammering, which wouldn't work as I can't access the back of them.
...and anyway, I got impatient and I've done it now...soldered and patinated and it all blends in nicely with the rest of the patchy green'ness. However, in order to make a better job of fixing the stand on I decided to cut a patch to reduced the size of the hole wot the bolt comes thru' (hard to explain, I'll post some pics tomorrow). I could solder it but quite fancy riveting it so maybe I'll splash out on a bag - I'm sure to find another use for them. I've seen some on fleabay but I'd rather spend £15 on 1000 than a fiver on 10! Anybody need any copper pop rivets?
I'll leave it till the morning just in case someone comes up with something which is a better deal than the site I referred to earlier.
Page 62 (boock 87 summer 07 the latest one)copper disc rivets they only have a slim shaft with a good size head so would do the job youv'e described nicely if your too cowered to put heat into it these will just super/epoxy even silicone in to hide your gastly holes........
Ask any roofer they will probs give you a handfull for the grand total of fukall.
