Can someone please tell me what home welding gear I would need for adapting a buggy frame to take a new engine... ie welding engine mounts on. The only welding I have done before this was at school using TIG welding.
Thanks
Dave
TIG or MIG would be fine providing the frame is plain old CDS (most likely). If that's the only job you want to do, cut the mounts first and hire the equipment.
I would use MIG, as it it is relatively easy to learn. I am a newbie but have managed to stick together a fair few bits of metal now, although I am still pretty handy with the grinder.
ARC, whilst being cheap, seems (from my limited experience of it some years ago) to be a bit 'fierce' for thinner stuff, especially for a beginner.
No idea how old you are, but if you have only recently left the school where you did TIG, pop in and have a chat with the teacher, see if you can do it there, might be good for some of their students to see what one of their ex-boys has been up to.
No it wont be the only work im going to do. I refurbish motocross bikes and race so im always needing a weld here or there. What amp mig welder would I need?
