Hello all, for the last few months I have been pondering whether to go back to college and brush up on some skills. Well, having now discussed it with SWMBO, she thinks it's a great idea too. The only problem is finding the course that i need. I gained all my welding quals nearly 20 years ago, and have been self employed in the building game for the past 10, although I keep my hand in on the welding side with little jobs and cars and the odd project.
What I really want to learn though is how to use a lathe, when i was learning last time, lathework was quickly brushed over and no real practice involved as the company I did my apprenticeship with did not use lathes.
I am looking to buy an old lathe, preferably really old!
The problem I have regarding courses is that no-one seems to do them anymore. I rang Wigan college today only to be told we don't offer anything like that these days as there is no call for it anymore, the only course they can offer me is 1 day a week for 4 years in welding and sheetmetalwork, and that does not include lathework....... sounds like the course i did 20 years ago
So, does anyone know of anywhere in the Wigan / Leigh / Horwich / Bolton / St.Helens areas that either does a nightclass or a fulltime college course?
It doesnt have to lead to a qualification either, I just want to be confident and know how to use the machine to its full potential, although if it does lead to another qualification thats good too.
All advice and ideas will be greatfully appreciated!
Regards
Mike
