HELP Clutch problems

Right the missus was using my second car (fiat Multipla diesel) no comments ..Anyway she rings me to say clutch has gone to the floor..Got it home and the slave cylinder rod had broken (plastic) ..Ive replaced the cylinder and tried to bleed the system ..Can I get a decent pedal ??? Ive done it the old way and also pressure bled it ..I can get a pedal but its not driveable doesnt fully clear..Its got about an inch free play at the pedal..Any tips?/..My last thoughts were to increase the rod length about an inch..HELP

Does either the master or slave cylinder slope away from the bleed nipple? If so tilting the car may help.

Another dodge I've used is to open the bleed nipple fully and push the pedal down quickly so any air gets pushed out before the fluid gets round it to form a bubble.

Both bleed nipples are level ..They have a stupidly placed nipple on the bulkhead which is a nightmare to get to, battery and tray out job..Ive tried pushing the pedal hard soft alway. then pressure bled it countless times..Best Ive had was I could put it in gear and start the car and it did start ok but was dragging and was a job getting it out again ..Ive even opened the nipples and left it to run out for half an hour but still no joy ..costing a fortune in fluid..Sledgehammer next

Can you take the clutch slave cylinder off, lift it up and bleed it in a higher position then fit it into place ? I have had to do it this way but never done a Multipla.

I was thinking on them lines myself to be honest but it gets harder each time to even look at it LOL ..I will try that tomorrow and hope ..Cheers

I use a vacuum bleeder; it is the only thing I have found that works when bleeding from the lowest point.

It has a can you pump down then open the bleeder and it will suck about two ounces of fluid. I can keep pumping down and adding fluid at the same time. That will pull a bubble all the way through the lines.

What you need is a Mityvac as Scott says, really good bit of kit, www.mityvac.com according to the label on the box. Does vacuum bleeding, also can be used for pressure testing as well. Sometimes need a little bit of ptfe tape on the nipple threads to stop it drawing air. You may well be able to rig something up on the same principle

I've got two dont allways work on clutches !!
If you get a large plastic syringe ( not a needle) from the chemist for about £3 fit a soft rubber hose to it then suck up the new brake fluid from ya container till syringe is full, hold the pipe up and push the air out first, making sure the pedal is at the top and cap is off, then put the other end of hose on the bleed nipple, open nipple and push the fluid up to the master cyl with the syringe, that then pushes any air the way it wants to go, which is up, coz it is lighter than oil! I use this method to bleed clutches and m/cycle disc brakes etc on my own and is easy cheap way to do it.That way you do not need to seal the nipple threads coz it just leaks a little under the pressure of the syringe.

If possible try cracking the pipes off under pressure, rather than bleed nipples. If there are any accesible banjo's.

Can only get to one on the slave and thats a stupid push fit with a clip
