Hello Folks,
I’m looking for some advice on purchasing a halfway decent auto helmet for Mig and Stick, and hopefully some Tig. It would be mainly for hobby/light use but I would prefer to buy once cry once, and get something that will last me for a good while.
Budget is flexible, but I’m looking to keep it sub £300 and ideally closer to £200.
My eyesight is shot, and I wear glasses – so the clearer the visibility the better, my welding needs all the help it can get.
After looking through dozens of online reviews and threads on here I think I’ve narrowed down the choices, all of which seem to have their own pros/cons according what I’ve seen mentioned – on my list so far are:
ESAB A50 Sentinel
Pros: Clarity, Grind Button, Comfortable headgear, Low profile, Price
Cons: Lenses easily scratched and expensive, Touchscreen can’t be used with gloves. Flashing on low Tig
Lincoln Viking 3350 (4C)
Pros: Clarity, Cheap lenses (or make your own in a pinch), Price
Cons: Front heavy, Fiddly controls, Headgear
Miller Infinity
Pros: X-Mode (seems like it would be useful)
Cons: Heavy, possibly not as clear as A50/3350, some complaints over headgear, Price
Optrel Vegaview 2.5
Pros: Clarity, Easy to adjust with gloves
Cons: Battery issues, Expensive lenses, Price
Others
Optrel E684 – lot of positive feedback, older tech but pushing the budget. Guess this will be pushed out by the Crystal.
Speedglass – expensive, possibly better options for the money?
Jackson WH70 – seems to be similar to 3350 but at higher price
I would be grateful if anybody could offer any first hand feedback on the above, even better a contrast and compare, any other suggestions, leftfield choices I’ve missed etc? – basically anything to help me make a decision as there doesn’t seem to be any clear winner.
