Hi everyone,

I found this site whilst looking for advice on welding - so looks like I've found the right place : - ))

I'm building a custom bike and need to weld steel plates to the frame but ain't got a clue how to do it and am getting a bit bogged down with what system is the best/most appropriate, safest, cheapest, easiest......................................................any advice would be very much appreciated,

Thanks mate, I just found an evening course that starts in Jan - and it qualifies for ILA funding so I'm well chuffed. What do you do yourself?

I'm a Machinist...done my apprenticeship with Royal Ordnance at Waltham Abbey/Enfield and Glascoed...[they were in the process of being sold off at the time and kept shutting factories... ]...so do turning/milling/grinding/etc...am working on CNC Engraving machines at the moment, but am doing a Beginners evening course on Welding at Waltham Forest College at the moment, something I've always wanted to be able to do, and would like to get into Vehicle Restoration work...being a machinist/engineer is not a good line of work nowadays and our time is limited with production type work...I work in a Machine Shop that used to be 26 last year...and now there is 5 of us...work has been outsourced...god I hate that word...means its being bodged cheaper in China...you should see the trouble they are having with the crap they are sending in...would laugh [in a "told you so" kinda fashion], but its sad to see it going that way...
