Hi all this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong section.
I have been itching to learn to weld for years and now i have no choice but to give it a go.
I have a landrover discovery and have to weld new brackets to my rear axel I have been told its not to hard and to give it a go but i want to get it right as i cant afford to mess it up!
I have a clark 105en turbo gasless and plan to use that to tack the mounts on the axel on the driveway.
Is 6mm thick way to thick for this welder? these are the mounts http://www.yrm-metal-solutions.co.uk/022--heavy-duty-6mm-thick-rear-axle-tie-rod-bracket-31-p.asp
There are some which are 3mm thick but strangely they are more expensive?
i am just tacking on all four corners and one in the middle and then i can drive it to a friends welding shop to get it seam welded properly, the originals are only tacked on so the seam weld is just for my own piece of mind
What settings should i be using? once i have cleaned the axel off what is the best thing to use to hold it in place? any other things i should do/beware of before i give it a go?
Thanks all, i think you will no doubt be hearing from me again! and yes i will post photos for all to see the outcome
