hello just thought id introduce myself an say what a cracking site this is
ive been a welder for around ten years off and on working for other companys/agencys ,hope to be working for myself this year.
my own welders i have at home are a 205amp clarke mig,and i just bought a sip150 amp something i could pic up and carry.

Most people I've talked to who work for themselves wouldn't go back to working for someone else. Me included. There are pitfalls though - the biggest being spreading the word at the start. After a year or so you'll get work from word of mouth, but the first year can be tough. It's not so bad if you have some savings to fall back on. Cut your living expenses down and it gets easier.

cheers malcolm ive been toying with the idea for years,its the only way to go for me now.
acumilated a fair bit of kit in that time, mostly 3 phase stuff .
yet to buy a proper welder but theres plenty to go at.
ive been browsing for a small premises recently and its shocking what little you,ll get for your money these days compared to when i first enquired a decade ago.
something will come up thanks for the good advice

I've been looking at moving premisis myself and, as you say, the prices are scary (even up north!)
I'm in an old Co-op building at the moment on 3 floors, but I need level loading. Each time a pallet of machines comes it really is a ball-ache loading them in!
Modern industrial units are 2 a penny for rent, but you try finding an affordable one to buy!
My best advice on starting up would be to keep your overheads to an absoloute minimum.
