Hello newbie

Hello just thought id introduce myself i havnt welded before but i'd love to learn and am thinking about buying a low amp welder, am provisionally looking at a SIP 06508 MIGMATE 130 but thought i would ask you guys if im wasting my time or what you would recommend, generally have a budget of around 170 and would mind going second hand if anyone has anything for sale

I would mainly being using it on cars and small fab

The SIPs are handy for thin metal, but it's said they can develop annoying wire feed problems over time. Clarkes seem to have a more reliable wire feed, but are maybe slightly more expensive to start with (although Machine Mart does VAT free days occasionally).

Second hand welders might be worth a shot on eBay - occasionally more expensive models turn up for sensible money - the Murex/ Miller /Lincoln /ESAB welders are rather nice. Generally fixing problems is expensive, but find a working one and insist on a demo and it might be worth the risk. http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/buying.htm might be worth a peep, though it's more of a checklist than a buyers guide.
