Hi all I'm new here, well newly registered. Been popping on here every so often and eventually got round to signin up.
Loved what I've seen so far.
Just bought a Sealey supermig 185 ready to start tackling my new project. 1987 Mini.
Been working with Arc a lot previously just DIY stuff. In middle of building a utility/ bike trailer which is all arced so far. Will get some piccies up on project page soon.
Anyway enough of me rabbling and look forward to a bit of banter .

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Ah jeez didn't really wanna hear that no. What are the main problems/issues with it? I got it a fairly decent price (I think) at £63 off fleabay. My first mig so hope its not too much of a dissapointment.
What mini have you got? Is it in project status or on the road? Mines a long way off. lol

Hi Doug,

Theres quite a bit said about the quality of the wire feed ('search' will show the threads that you might want to read up on), but that said - there are a number of members who use the SIP's with no, or very little issue.
If its a fleabayer you may want to service the comsumables - liner/tips/shroud and a fresh real of wire (not too expensive), and could mean that you're not blaming your welding techinque when is the machine playing up.

Yep LoVe the mini (not that fat german thing ) Got a few at the mo: '61 850, 1275GT, '74 1000, empty shell awaiting a 16V. It's a very good car to practice your welding on: no complicated box sections and all panels are available off the shelf.

Hy ye totally love mini's this is my fifth so far but first welding project with one. You have quite a collection of them. 16V project sounds great. Keep us updated on here, I'd love to follow you progress.
As for the consumables I have already bought new wire, shrouds and tips. It has a euro torch fitted so I'm going to see how it is first before bying liner etc. Just need to sort out some gas for it. It has a regulator for a full size bottle but as yet I am unsure of where to source either a big or medium sized bottle. Any ideas? Ive read on here Argon/ CO2 mix is best but where to get it? Thanks

Soz Doug, but i'm still on the throw aways at the mo....There are various options on Gas supplies.
The yellow pages could be your friend for someone local. Theres the option to use BOC or Air Products (I believe accounts are needed - but not unreasonable) Theres also Adams Gas based in Margate who I hear do a good deal with no rental charges (I think).

I have always used a Argon/Co2 mix. Keeps the arc a little more usable on thin metals. Again there is plenty of very good info on the boards.

welcome aboard,spot was referring to www.adamsgas.co.uk, if you email steve at adams he will give you the pricing on the krysal range (argon,co2 mix) similar size to a BOC x size cylinder...i think its £20.99+vat,£40 fully refundable deposit and £25 return postage (unless you collect from margate).

The other alternative for gas is Youngs in Twickenham. They sell a 10L bottle of argoshield-alike for £120 +VAT. Refill is £40ish.

I have a sealey 185 I got new for £339, which is doing me very well ta very much. Hopefully it will continue to do so..

I queried the posting to scotland and it gets sent by carrier for £25 (including the return journey) They currently send krysal 5 or 20 (argoshield light or universal) oxygen,nitrogen,Co2 and Helium i think,Steve tells me they are due to add Argon soon.
They are only posting x size (approx) cylinders at the moment i think,if you email steve@adamsgas.co.uk he will give you the upto date list.
When i get my mig sorted im thinking of taking a krysal 5 from them.

Thats brilliant thanks for all the information. Can't wait to get a bottle and get started using it. Will look into getting a bottle ordered today.
Also thanks to Hoodedclaw for filling me with a bit more confidence on my new purchase. Thought I had bought a dodgy make.

When you say the Adams cylinders are a similar size to the BOC x size, don't you have to take into account the fact that the Adams ones are filled to 137 bar, while BOC are filled to 230 bar, so they actually only hold just over half as much? Or am I confused? Probably still makes them cheaper than BOC depending on your usage.
