Well for a start is every one copping with the credit crunch, its pooo...any way can some one tell me what severance capacity means please still looking for a good plasma
Severance is essentially the max thickness a machine will cut, BUT it will not be pretty. Best to go off the 'clean cut' which is the thickness it will cut and leave a nice clean edge (funnily enough).
Thanks for that, right next question is what would you say is the best 3 phase cutter on the market, and how thick would a plasma cut in the real world and leave a nice edge.....sorry about all the questions but need the info.
Well Hypertherm are the plasma people so I'd start by looking at one for theirs. As for the thickness of cut, well obviously that depends on the machine but 20-25mm for a 3 phase one should be perfectly feasible.
We were cutting some 200x100mm packers out of 30mm plate tonight/lastnight. We had a 120 Amp 3ph machine with a pretty slow travel. Nice cut though, will have to try something a bit thicker to see what it can handle.
I'd also recommend Hypertherm. I have a powermax 1650 which has a severance cut of 1 3/4" (44mm).
Check it out if you need a large capacity 3 phase machine. Its very light and portable, so easy to wheel around and just about runs off a regular 3 HP compressor.
