Hi all. I have been pointed to this forum from a land rover forum I'm also a member of to get some hints about buying a welder and then learning to use it in the pursuit of removing the dreaded tin worm from my Land Rover discovery.

I don't have a massive budget for welding equipment, £250 - £300 max (or for fixing the land rover) hence why I want to do it myself. The welding I need to do is all bodywork. The chassis is rock solid so I have nothing substantial to do.

Once I am up and running I will post pictures of my progress on a project thread.

Hi Mark welcome to the forum, lots of Landie owners around here I have been stripping down and repainting a 1975 Rangie sometimes I think it is dissolving quicker than I am rebuilding it

Maintaining the sealant delivery systems was one of my jobs and from the mid 90's they put quite a lot on each model, and to try and stop the infamous bulkhead rot in Defenders, they injected wax into them.

Don't remind me of the night the trace heating packed up on the wax delivery lines, had to break and rod out 100's metres of pipework

Actually, the boot floor is pretty solid. The previous owner had some patches done on there but only little bits. I paid for the drivers side sill to be replaced with box section a few years ago but the bottoms of the A & B pillars need repairs and the front inner wings have the structural integrity of a wet digestive biscuit now.

There is also a crusty patch on both rear wheel arches, and the bottoms of both alpine windows. I'd like to take the glass out and replace it with steel and potentially the rain roof(s) too.
