Hi everyone I'm new here and could do with some advice. I need to weld the aluminium casing on an old motorbike, its the primary chaincase from an old Triumph. I've got some money available to buy gear but would like advice on what will weld it best. So far I believe an AC TIG set using pure argon would the one to aim for - is this correct?
If so any advice on what to buy and where from?

You are spot on yes, an AC/DC TIG set. You can buy new imported machines for around £500, although you are looking at £1000 or thereabouts for a quality machine. If you don't have ongoing work it may well be worth 'farming it out' to a specialist welder?

Hi. sorry i've not replied, i've been having trouble with my phone line.
Thanks for your advice weldequip. Since you replied i've phoned around local to me and there are very few places that will weld aluminium. I'm beginning to wonder if there might be an opportunity for me to set myself up and earn some pocket money now i've retired. I worked as a welder a long time ago (30 years) but only ever did mild steel and stainless. I would have to relearn some long forgotten skills! With a name like welequip do you sell welding equipment by any chance?
