hello everybody, i didnt know such a forum existed a mate emailed it to me, ive had a quick look round looks like a place i could learn something new & maybe pass on a bit of knowledge too, ive built overhead cranes, coal mines,old sterling moss type cars, numerous motorbikes,miniture stuff, even a russian tank, a spirral staircase was possibly the most frustrating, ill be looking around catch yer later

Welcome spannaman. Wow you've been involved in a lot of stuff there. Do you happen to have any photos of the Stirling Moss type cars? Which type and what did you do to them?

Welcome spannaman. Wow you've been involved in a lot of stuff there. Do you happen to have any photos of the Stirling Moss type cars? Which type and what did you do to them?

Do you have any photos of the cranes and coal mines? (they might not be quick, but they're more interesting - IMO )

first off, welcome to the forum, but im intrigued how do you build a coal mine? the project sounds awfully large like others said the stirling moss car sounds like a fantastic project, but then a lot simpler than say trying to build a modern car , as for the russian tank i would love to see pictures of that, the mind boggles as to how one builds a russian tank from scratch.

thanks for the replys, i just wrote loads of stuff about what you asked it took me ages but i wasnt logged on its all gone & im mardy now

Oh no! That's happened to me before now and it's really annoying. You can recover stuff sometimes using the back button then copying the stuff you wrote if you can get back far enough. Works in Firefox.

I'll see if the remember me option can be made a bit more default, or if the reply button can turn up a little less for anyone not logged in.

I run a key logger anyway so any thing i type is stored in a txt buffer, can be very useful, and also rather amusing when reading back some distance, especially when ale is involved

If you're losing stuff, you could type it into another format first - stickies, word, textedit or whatever you have, then cut and paste it into the forum reply section. Pain, I know, and there will be a proper fix so you don't have to do it. But it's a drag to lose your work.

Malcolm might have an idea about your problem.

I had a look around but can't find any useful error reports. It shouldn't be possible to get to the page where you type the posts without being logged on so I'm guessing it's loosing you in the process.

Are you set up to accept cookies from the forum - otherwise it might be a time out problem.

Definately keep a copy of posts before posting until we sort this one.

I have had it happen to me a coiple of times, usually if im doing a very long reply. I gues thats the page timing out.

I have found one possibility. There was a session timeout in the software set to 15 minutes. No idea if that was the problem but I've changed it to 1 hour just in case. Long posts are the best ones to read - full of great info, and the most disappointing to loose through bugs. Do take a copy before posting until we know it's sorted. And do try again - nobody will mind if you post it bit by bit after all these hassles.

Anyone seeing any errors in the future please copy me the error message text in a PM - that'll help me search for the exact problem.

Having just searched the forum providers for session timeouts I think it is that. I'll add a note on the posting form to say there is a time limit for posts of 1 hour (and will make the real time limit a little more than that).

It's madness. Thanks for highlighting this one spannaman, and sorry for your lost posts. I'm itching to find out what you wanted to say now. Please do try again.

yep, that'll be me i weld a lot faster than i type, especially that spray transfer stuff, dont like that, only lasted a week in that job making skips, i like to create not make loads of stuff the same, i made a spirral staircase for my uncle after that just to do something creative, i underestimated that project i can tell you, just to get the treads to finish in the right place is a right headache, i thought just stick a pole up & drop a load of treads on no problem, which it isnt if you want to make a staircase into next doors house!enter the maths again, not to hot on that either,im gonna see if this posts before i waffle on any more, ive just finished work , i had to sneak out with two 3 metre girders for my conservatory , their on the roof of my car now i put them on with a fork lift & now im home i cant get them off!
