Another newbie comes out of the closet cupboard shadows.
Introduce yourself, it says. Ok, so my name's Liz, and I spent the last 30-odd years working in Telly as a technical operator and then as a studio and support engineer. Then I got breast cancer, so I decided to 'retire' and spend more time with my machine tools.
Dad was a science teacher, ex-Royal Signals, and collected all kinds of bits of arcane tools and knowledge. I inherited a number of his tools, which added to my own woodworking stuff means I have a reasonable workshop to retire to, but...
...I never learned to weld. That is, we have an old Topweld MMA box which we can drag out, and have used from time to time to stick bits of metal together in a fairly agricultural fashion, but neither me nor my other half (Nick) are skilled, and we both need practice. For us, it's not so much about having a specific project yet, it's more about having the addition to a skillset.
So here I am. I've been lurking for a while, just to try and find whether I'd be 'comfortable' here, and you seem like a nice bunch. The plan was originally for us to do a local course, but cancer, and then Covid and lockdowns have kind of put paid to that for the moment.
Eventually I suspect that TIG and bicycle building will figure, but we're not looking that far ahead yet.
So, Hello all and thanks for having us!
