So dumbar$e here has managed to get an over spray of adhesive (black flock adhesive) all over the back of his white car, I've tried a claybar which has removed some of it but there's still a lot left which isnt moving.

I tried a gentle rub with some 2000 grit on a small area which seems to have done the trick, but has left the paint dull and faded, I'm hoping this will polish out with some G3 or some other aggressive polishing compound. any ideas?

Try a finer abralon sanding pad, I have used some p4000 and they leave very little to polish afterwards, almost gloss after sanding. If the paint on car is 2k thinners won't effect it but may remove the adhesive, worth a try on a small area.

I'd try some AutoSmart Tardis before resorting to more sanding.

I'd be tempted to get a bodyshop to mop it - less chance of needing a respray than sanding it off!

I bought just 2 abralon sanding discs of eBay for £3.95 delivered as I wanted to try them before committing to a large purchase and I would think 2 would do a complete car as they are very good,

If its 2k paint, just use thinners on a rag. Test on an inconspicuous bit first!!

Or if it's thicker then you can use thinners on a fine scotchbrite pad but you will need to be careful and polish afterwards, I use this to remove glue or sealant residue under badges etc before prep for paint.

3m do some very good pre polish pads I think they are trizact or something. Up to 4000 grit. They are like a piece of 5MM ish thick high density sponge with the grit imbedded. They last for aaaages as the grit runs all the way true the pad. They're Velcro backed.

I tried washing it off then attacking it with a Meguires Claybar, but that didn't work.

Try different solvents first. Many adhesives will respond to thinners. Acetone is a good one too, but never on cellulose!

I've got some acetone in the workshop, I'll give that a try if thinners don't work. Come to think of it I actually use acetone for thinning the adhesive down anyway so might try that first.
