Height Adjustable Heater

I'm gonna build one of these:-

I've got the heating element etc. and the bottom frame/base is pretty straight forward, I just wondered if anyone had any good ideas for making it height adjustable? only needs a range of say 10" I'm thinking I need to find some heavy duty telescopic tube say around 3" in diameter.

I've got in my head there is something I can cannibalise to work I just can't think what, thought of maybe a floor standing pillar drill? but think the cost might be a bit much.......

Made a start on the stand today. Decided to try and make use of as many bits and pieces of steel I've got lying about, and scavenged a short scaffold pole from a friend for the main upright.

My first idea wasn't as neat as I'd hoped so I bought a short piece of 40mm stainless tube and knocked up version two of the main height adjustment. I also put a thrust bearing in the top so the top collar moves around a bit smoother than pipe on pipe.
